We are sad that today is Hinemoa's last day.  She is moving to Ashburton.
She shared a feast with us today because it is her last day. We loved it.

Fire Engine

I want to explain why we went to see the fire engine.
There are several reasons for this.  The main reason is because Jade won a prize at Children's Day.
Another reason is when there is an oil fire you never put water on it because it will explode.  You put a wet tea towel on it.  Make sure that the towel has no dry pieces on it because it will burn, and never peek to see if it went out.
A further reason is if a chemical has split the fire fighters always wear a plastic suit over them so it never gets into their skin.  All of the hoses are different sizes.
So now you can see why we had a visit from the fire engine.

Fire Engine Visit

In the morning we were going to the gate to see who was going to bring Jade to school.  We got to hear the noise it made.  It was loud.  Then the fireman got to show us around the fire truck.  We got to look at the hoses.  They were long.  We sat in it and we got to look at the suits in a bag.  Then we saw the big hose.  When we got to squirt the water out.  It was fun.

I want to explain why it is important there are firemen.
It is because they can take care of us and keep us safe.
There are several reasons for this.  The main reason is that the fireman told us that if you have an oil fire you do not pour water on it.  It will explode if you do.  You can put a wet tea towel, dish, pot lid or a cutting board.
Another reason is they use a big ladder for going up buildings.
A further reason is that Jade won a Children's Day prize.
So now you see why it is important to have firemen to protect us.

Fire Truck Visit

I want to explain why a fire truck has got ladders.  It is  so the fire fighters can get up to high buildings.
There are several reasons for the fire fighters visiting Room 14.  One reason was so they could teach us how to put out a fire.
The main reason is that the fire fighters kick the doors open when the door is blocked.
Another reason is you wear a breathing mask.
A further reason is that they use the mini hose for bush fires.
So now you can see why Mr Middlemass came to school.

We got to hear the siren and it was a loud siren on the fire engine.  There are about four sizes of hose in the fire engine.  I had a good time then.  Thank you so much to the fireman, Mr Middlemass.

Another reason is to teach us how to learn about putting a fire out and not make prank calls.  We learned not to put water on an oil fire or an electricity fire.
A further reason is to help us learn what firemen use for a fire.
So now you can see why the fireman came to our school.

A Very Special Visit!

Jade Murphy won a ride to school in a fire engine on Children's Day.  When she got dropped off at school we were waiting.  We got to have a sit in the fire truck and then squirt the fire hose.  We had a good time.  The fireman turned on the siren and it was loud.  The siren had three different types of sound.  He showed us how to plug the hose into the fire hydrant.  He showed us how to turn on the fire hose.  He showed us how many hoses their were and explained how long they take to run out of water.  One was only two minutes and one was five minutes.
